While sitting here on a rainy Saturday and regretfully flipping through the channels at least three times I had a idea. Why not entertain myself by insulting the other members of my fantasy football league by picking apart everyone's drafts. It's a win win for everybody. So lets start with the first team and work our way down. Since team names continue to change we'll just use owner names and to avoid this being a long winded article I'll just hit the highlights of each team's draft.
Mathew- A-
Hull raised his game this year with a very solid draft. He took Dwayne Bowe a bit early for my tastes but barring any injuries or lemons (ex. Johnson, Chris circa 2011) I see Hull with a legitimate playoff team.
Strongest Pick- Aaron Rodgers
Weakest Pick- Kansas City Defense
Sleepers- Dwayne Allen, Titus Young, Randy Moss
Amy- C
It started so well and then the train wreck known as Amy showed up. With Brady, Welker, and Gates in the first 3 rounds, Amy looked poised to make a playoff run this year. But obviously in a strategy move to make the league more of a challenge, since apparently she has back to back Superbowls, she decides to keep everyone guessing by picking Ridley, Stewart, and Tate. But who knows maybe all her picks will pay off.
Strongest Pick- Tom Brady
Weakest Pick- T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Is still active, but injured)
Sleepers- Throw a dart, any of those unknowns could be a surprise
Grant- B+
A solid draft for the rookie here. He was a little lacking on running back depth, but made up for it in wide receivers. I thought that Romo was a bit of a reach in the 4th round but managed to get a solid back up in Jay Cutler later. Which I can see him starting as the season progresses. Depending on how the season plays out Grant could make a playoff appearance in his first year.
Strongest Pick- Ray Rice
Weakest Pick- James Starks
Sleeper- Tim Tebow????
Don- B
Stocking up early on Running backs he left himself weak at wide receiver. Not to say that any three of his wide receivers couldn't end up in the top ten each week. It's just guessing which ones they will be. I really liked his late pick of Owen Daniels and can easily see him replacing Tony G. in his lineup.Unfortunately unless things fall Don's way this year I still see him on the outside looking in for the playoffs. But what the hell do I know.
Strongest Pick- Arian Foster? ( Any of his RB's I can see in the top 3 at the end of the year)
Weakest Pick- Mike Williams (I see another year of Mediocrity from him)
Sleeper- Owen Daniels
Johnathon- B-
Oh Johnny, Johnny, Johnny... I kid, I kid. Johnathon stepped up this year by managing not to draft a single retired or IR player this year. However it was a bit of a shock to see Jamal Charles go 5th overall. You just couldn't take C.J. off my hands could you. Johnny's team has true potential this year and while I don't think he is quite playoff bound. He could easily knock out somebody else or sneak into a wild card spot.
Strongest Player- Cam Newton
Weakest Player- Ryan Fitzpatrick (When you already have Luck..Why??) Oh yeah Beer Goggles
Sleeper- Jason Witten
Eric- B
In Mike Wallace he trusts. Fetter put a lot of faith in his wide receivers this year. He has a strong WR corps and decent running backs. I just don't know if I could pin all my playoff hopes on Alex Smith or Peyton Manning. Especially if I wanted my team to break his neck in week one. I believe Fetter will be ridding the pine this playoff season, but only time will tell.
Strongest Pick- Julio Jones
Weakest Pick- Mike Wallace ( I just hate that pick in the 2nd round)
Sleeper- Peyton Manning (Could make or break his season)
Brandon- B
It will be an interesting for Brandon this year. After drafting almost the entire Green bay Packers team last year, he was only able to get Randall Cobb this year. So we'll see if he can find diamonds in the rough across the league instead of having one team carry him to the playoffs. This year I believe Brandon will hit his sophomore slump and be a strong contender for the golden plunger.
Strongest Pick- Drew Breeeees
Weakest Pick- Nick Toon
Sleeper- Robert Turbin (Really liked this one)
Todd- B+
The Gambler. Todd's draft has a lot of potential and a lot of questions. I'm sure that he was relieved to see MoJo report to camp, but will the rest of his bets pay off? The ceiling of his team could lead him to the Superbowl or the floor could leave him in the basement.
Strongest Pick- Mathew Stafford
Weakest Pick- Felix Jones (Too early for me)
Sleeper- Brandon LaFell (Could Pay off Big)
Scott- A
The first Irish Jew I've ever met. He has to have 4 leaf clovers shoved up his ass to have McCoy fall to him. The only part of his draft that I don't like is his QB situation, But we'll see if Flacco or Rapelesberger can step up for him. Barring injuries or the Voodoo that I'm practicing on him I believe that he will make another playoff appearance this year.
Strongest Pick- Rob Gronkowski
Weakest Pick- Ben Rothliberger ( Biased: I think he won't have time in the pocket)
Sleeper- Justin Blackmon
Brock- B+
Like Todd I took some gambles this year. The biggest in the 1st round betting on which C.J. will show up this year. My team is a bunch of injury risks or possible sub-par performers this year. But according to P I have been on a down hill slide for the past two years and need to turn it around. So we'll see if my gambles pay off, but i believe I will still sneak into the playoffs
Strongest Pick- Jimmy Graham
Weakest Pick- Nick Collins (was on IR)
Sleeper- Torrey Smith, Jacquizz Rodgers
Patrick- B
I don't love his draft, but I don't hate it either. But as I have learned over the years Patrick and I evaluate players differently. We forced him into taking the gamble on Vick's health, but he has a potentially strong back up in Russell Wilson. He has a solid receiving corps, but what I liked most about his draft was Doug Martin in the 4th, because he wouldn't have been there in the 5th. Patrick's team will start off rough but will come on strong later and possibly sneak him into the playoffs.
Strongest Pick- Doug Martin
Weakest Pick- Montario Hardesty
Sleeper- Mikel LeShoure (Love It)
Corey- C
Ehh... He's a rookie so I'll set the bar low. I like some of his players, I just hate where he picked them. He was reaching for a lot of them, but him being a last minute fill in he managed to put together a decent team. I think that we all can agree that he will be an improvement over some past league members. I don't think he will make the playoffs this year, but it is the NFL and anything can happen.
Strongest Pick- Jeremy Maclin (Great Value)
Weakest Pick- Dexter McCluster (Too many mouths to feed in KC)
Sleeper- Pierre Thomas
So for those of you playing at home my predictions for the playoffs are:
Hull Johnny
Grant Scott
Brock Patrick
Above is just my opinion and something to fill my time while waiting to go see my Titans tomorrow. If you felt that I was unfair then go write your own damn blog and rank your team at the top of the league. In the end it won't matter because it's all guessing until it happens.
But what the Hell do I know, my Superbowl win came against Johnathon.
Disclaimer: My grading might have been harsher depending on my Blood alcohol level at the time.
